Hi Neighbor

In order to prepare for emergency situations, our community leaders, first responders and churches have been working together to better prepare our members for emergencies that could arise. One of the steps that we are taking is to organize our town by blocks, representing 6 to 12 households. If you need suggestions for preparedness or have experience in an area that you could share, we would like to hear from you. Working together is extremely important in an emergency.

In a disaster, what matters most? If you have to escape your home, you will leave your car, toys, games, food clothing and money behind to save your life and that of your family. Unfortunately, some of those items could come in handy when you go into survival mode. This is why having a 72-hour kit and a designated location where it is easy to grab and go is so important.

How to use the red, yellow & green sheets of paper: During an emergency, place the sheet of appropriate colored paper in the pre-designated location (this location needs to be communicated with your block captain and should be visible from the street). If you or a family member is critically injured then use the red sheet, or if someone is injured and needs attention but it isn’t life threatening use the yellow sheet. If all is well and you do not need medical attention then use the Green sheet. Please fill in the required information on the sheet prior to placing it in the window. (Number of people in the house, number of people critically injured. If anyone has died, please list that number as well.)

Monthly Preparedness Meetings.

The Pahranagat Valley Fire District puts on monthly preparedness trainings and or community meetings in conjunction with the Pahranagat Valley Emergency Preparedness Initiative Committee. These are posted on the Fire District Facebook page, I love PV Facebook page and bulletin boards at the post office and store. They usually take place at the Ambulance Barn.

Our next community meeting is on Thursday August 22nd at the High School from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Mercy Air will be there showing their helicopter throughout the night and sharing information about their service and ways they can help our community. We will also cover our community emergency plan and how we will handle different emergency scenarios.

  • Rapid Evacuation
  • Slower Controlled Evacuation
  • Shelter in Place
  • Power Failures

We encourage all to attend.

With your help, we look forward to organizing our blocks into a cohesive unit ready for an emergency.

Thanks for your participation.
